Plates
Plates are one of the most common items I get asked about. There are a few sets of annual plates, mini plate sets, mini plates and one off plates.
Annual plates
In 1971, Hummel produced its first annual plate. This plate diplected Hum 21 Heavenly Angel and was released to the factory workers to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the W. Goebel Firm. The plate was later made for retail sale. This first plate was so popular in the United Stated, it was decided that similar plates would be released annually from then on.

Friends Forever
This is a four plate series designed by master sculptor Gerhard Skrobek in 1991 and released in 1992. These plates are 7 inches in diameter, the plates are smaller than an annual plates and they have a decorative border.

Four Seasons
This series of plates are the work of master sculptor Helmut Fischerin the beginng of 1996. These plates measure 7.5 inches in diameter and contrary to the normal, the plate design elements are three-dimensional.

These Christmas annual plates were released from 1995-2000. These plates all diplict an angels doing various things such as playing a musical instrument, praying and so on. All of these plates were modeled by master sculptor Helmut Fischer.

Celebration Plate Series
This is a series of 6.25 inch plates that was made available exclusively to members of the former Goebel Collectors’ Club (now the M.I. Hummel Club). These plates were released to celebrate the club’s 10th anniversary. These are modeled by master sculptor Gerhard Skrobek in 1985. One plate was released each year for 4 years.

These plates all diplected boys playing musical instruments.

Second Release of Annual Plates
These are 6 plated released between 2000 – 2003. The 2002 plate also had matching figurines released at the same time. Each of these plated was modeled by master sculptor Helmut Fischer in the 1990’s and the first plate released in 2000. The 2000 plate ” Star Gazer” is part of the “Millennium” plate series and has a 60th anniversary backstamp honoring Hum 132.

M.I. Hummel Miniature Plate Series
Each plate in this 25 plate series has a 1995 copyright date applied by blue decals on the back. These plates are 3.25 inches and are a reproduction of the larger annual plates with the same name. These were produced in 1995 for the European market only. However they were available in the United States through the Danbury Mint. You could buy a custom wood wall display for $19.95 at the time of production.
